The Niagara Falls Community Development Department (NFCD) and Niagara Falls City School District are hosting the second annual “Color Your City” 5K Run in Hyde Park of September 14, 2018. Runners and walkers of all ages are welcomed to this family friendly event, sponsored by the New York State Health Foundation.
Participants will be provided clean white T-shirts, and pass through color stations along the course where they will be showered with colored powder. This is an untimed event, focused more on fun and community health rather than competition. There will be family friendly events after the run and throughout the evening.
NFCD is adding two new challenge this year. Challenge #1: The Niagara Falls School with the greatest percentage of students registered for the run will win a $2,500 award to be dedicated to an assembly or fun day at their school in the 2018-2019 school year. That amount can be added to an existing event or used to create a new one. It is the school's choice. NFCD’s only request is that the event link back to mobility, STEAM or parent engagement. Challenge #2: The Niagara Falls School with the greatest percentage of teachers/staff registered for the run will win a free lunch for its staff on a date of its choosing during the 2018-19 school year. This challenge is offered to all Niagara Falls City School District schools and Catholic Academy of Niagara Falls.
“With support from the New York State Health Foundation, we are hosting exciting family-friendly events in Niagara Falls. Our school challenge is another way to keep this momentum going, through friendly competition,” said Seth Piccirillo, Director of Niagara Falls Community Development.
Race registration will be set up in front of the John A. Duke Senior Center, and free parking will be available at the Sal Maglie Stadium parking lot.
